Bodegas Barreto
A working family bodega tucked into the lava plain between Masdache and Tías, bottling under the El Campesino label since 1959 after generations of growing Malvasía in the surrounding zocos.
The Barreto family began with a 200-litre harvest in 1950 and built outward from there, never courting a brand site or a glossy visitor centre. The portfolio leans on what the volcanic soils give: a dry Malvasía Volcánica, a semi-sweet, and a fortified Vino de Licor that took best-of-Canarias honours in 1996, 1997, and 1998. There is also a Diego white, a Listán Negro tinto joven, and a quiet rosado, all sold mostly to islanders and Canarian restaurants. The cellar door is a small tasting and sales room; tours of the bottling plant run by appointment only. Come for the wine, not the architecture — the work here is in the vineyard.
