Bodegas Los Bermejos

Los Bermejos sits at the foot of a small volcano in La Florida, San Bartolomé, on land that belonged to the Bello family for generations.

The estate had been making wine in small quantities until 2001, when winemaker Ignacio Valdera and entrepreneur Carmelo González bought it and rebuilt the operation around single-variety bottlings of Lanzarote's native grapes — Malvasía Volcánica, Diego, Listán Negro, Moscatel. The cellar works by gravity and whole-cluster pressing, with minimal intervention; many wines are unfiltered. The signature is the Listán Rosado made by maceración carbónica, an unusual choice for a rosé that gave the bodega its early identity, served in a distinctive Italian-designed tall bottle that has since been copied elsewhere on the island. Around twenty hectares of ungrafted vines feed an annual harvest of roughly 500,000 to 800,000 kilograms — phylloxera never reached Lanzarote, so the rootstocks are pre-19th-century European.
